Team Toolbox! Tips, Tools, and Collaboration for Educators Supporting Students with Autism and Significant Cognitive Disabilities
It’s Not Just a Space: Meaningful Inclusive Practices for Students with Intellectual Disabilities

Teaching students with significant autism and/or low incidence disabilities requires educators to wear many hats and be focused and intentional during daily instruction. This series of webinars are designed to provide teachers resources and time to build professional connections with colleagues who work directly with students who have been diagnosed with ASD, ID, or have significant academic and behavior support needs. Some of the topics addressed may include:

  • Classroom structure and organization
  • Visual supports and communication
  • Video modeling, social narratives, and mindfulness
  • Active learning methods
  • Literacy for students with AU/LID
  • Assistive technology devices
  • Challenges of virtual/blended learning for students with significant support needs

Important Session Information:

When supporting inclusion opportunities for students with more significant disabilities, educators may struggle with accommodating and modifying a lesson enough for student understanding. Similarly, inclusive activities may not mirror at all what other general education peers are doing, thus creating an imbalance in inclusive purpose. Participants will analyze current inclusive practices with their students and acquire techniques and strategies to maximize social and academic benefit.
