Supporting Students With Significant Cognitive Disabilities
Teach, Practice and Reinforce Positive Behaviors with Narratives and Video Modeling

In an effort to educate students with low incidence disabilities, teachers face challenges in meeting academic, behavioral and social needs.

These sessions will provide resources, strategies and training for those who serve students with complex access needs.  Join this network of teachers, paraprofessionals, specialists, administrators and parents for support and collaboration specifically for serving students with significant cognitive disabilities.

Important Session Information:

Teachers face many challenges, academic, behavioral and social, in an effort to educate students with autism spectrum disorders and other special needs. This session will provide teachers with the nuts and bolts of the practical, evidence-based strategies of social narratives and video modeling.

After all, have you ever read a "how-to" book or watched a video on the internet to learn how to do something new? That is the power of social narratives and videos to teach new skills or alternative behaviors. Each of these strategies serves to clarify expectations, provide perspective and teach alternatives that lead to more successful skills that are crucial for learning and development in many areas and environments.

Social narratives and video modeling that are personalized with student interests also teach positive behaviors and allow individuals to make healthy choices for themselves and others. Through consistent implementation, these strategies serve as powerful bridges to a brighter future.
