Visual Supports for Students with Complex Access Needs
Where to Begin & How to Implement - A Make and Take




Visual Supports serve as communication and a tool for students to process information on a message, task or expectation. This session will help you create effective visuals for communication, scheduling and socialization based on the individualized needs of your students. 

 

The first day of this session is a virtual day where we will identify information needed to prepare the visual supports (schedules, resources, tools). The second day, we will meet in person to create the visuals in a Make and Take setting.

Session Goals:

  • Understand the importance of visual supports including class and individual schedules
  • Using guiding tools to determine the most appropriate format/types of visual supports needed
  • Creating visuals that are tailored to the student strengths, needs & interests                   

This 2-day professional development session will provide interactive learning, video examples, supporting research and the use of the PLUSS classroom at ESC6.                        

**Day 2 is a "make and take" where attendees will receive a variety of instructional materials to support the use of visuals with their students!**
