Section 504 Compliance Requirements and the Connection to Child Find/Special Education
2-Day Academy for Staff Supporting Section 504 and Child Find




If you are new to §504 or want to understand a public school’s duties under this law, this session is for you. A veteran school lawyer will discuss §504 and the importance of process-based compliance to satisfy the Office for Civil Rights §504 legal requirements as well as the relationship between §504 and special education. This session will walk through the school’s duty to provide a 504-compliant Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Child find, evaluation and eligibility; creation and documentation of the 504 Plan; and the school's duties in regard to re-evaluation of these students will be covered. The law’s nondiscrimination protections including manifestation determination and equal participation in extracurricular and nonacademic services will also be discussed.
