Welding Educator Training




Welding Educator training including certification processes, lesson planning, and teacher certification. Participants will be provided with hands on instruction, complete lesson plans, and guidance for student certification processes.

Overview: training includes certification processes, lesson planning, and welding content. Participants will be provided with hands on instruction, complete lesson plans, and guidance for student certification processes.

Agenda

Day 1- A review of the current TEA Accountability List:

o AWS D1.1, AWS D9.1, API 1104

· A basic overview of Stick and MIG welding steel.

· Welding defects, visual inspection and the use of welding inspection tools

· A review of weld test lesson plans for basic AWS D1.1, AWS D9.1 welder certification

 

Day 2- Oxy-fuel Cutting Theory and Demos

· Necessary equipment, set up, and cutting with alternative fuel gases

· Alternative fuel demos and practice cutting, gouging and heating

 

Day 3- Practical and Hands-on welding of TEA IBC weld test joints- D1.1, D9.1, 1104

Fillet, groove, and tack weld inspection and destructive testing for welder certification.

o Completing application paperwork for welder certification

o Oxy-Fuel Torch completion of the certification practical portion (if desired)

 

The workshop will require the facility to provide:

· Stick welding machines, adequate for the number of participants, E7018 1/8” rods

· At least one or two MIG welding machines. A track torch for beveling plate (optional)

· A horizontal band saw or cold cut chop saw to cut welded steel plates for testing.

Teachers should provide for themselves:

· Welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, chip hammer, wire brush, grinder, pliers, etc…

· For teacher’s wanting to get certifications themselves the following plates can be used depending on the type of certs that teachers want or need training on for testing students. Bring a few of each for practice, if needed: AWS D1.1 Tack Welder- 1/2" x 4” x 4”, Lesson plan #1

AWS D9.1 Fillet Welder- 1/4" x 2” x 6”, Lesson plan #2

AWS D9.1 Groove Welder- 1/4" x 2” x 6”, Lesson plan #3

ASME Section IX Fillet Welder- 3/8” x 3” x 6”, Lesson plan #4

AWS D1.1 Fillet Welder- 1/2" x 4” x 8”, Lesson plan #5

AWS Groove Welder, with backing- 3/8” x 3” x 6”, Beveled 22.5°, Lesson plans #6.

AWS Groove Welder, Open root- 3/8” x 3” x 6”, Beveled 30°, Lesson plan #7.

API 1104 Pipe- 4” pipe and 4.5” pipe, 1 ea. 3” long
