Migrant Summer School Curriculum Training
In-person Project SMART, Instructor Summer Math Program

This session will offer the migrant staff from Title I, Part C Migrant Education Program districts the updated Migrant Summer School Curriculum. The curriculum is an innovative, needs-based math program designed specifically for migrant students. It promotes higher level math encompassing five dimensions of mathematical proficiency, two strategies from the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model and a balanced literacy approach. Sample lessons and activities will be presented for teachers and paraprofessionals delivering instruction to migrant students in the district's summer migrant program.

Important Session Information:

Project SMART: Making Mathematics Meaningful is a Texas summer math migrant program created by the Texas Education Agency in collaboration with the Education Service Center, Region 20. The overarching goal of the program is to improve the math skills of migratory students through scientifically-based instruction, technology integration, professional development, and parent involvement. Participants will gain an understanding of the Project SMART curriculum and how to implement it in a center-or home-based setting. All Project SMART teachers must attend the training in order to gain access to the curriculum and materials for the current program year.
