Teaching Through Trauma

In this comprehensive session, attendees will gain a foundational understanding of trauma and how it impacts the developing brain, student behavior, and the body’s stress response system. Participants will learn about common triggers and gain insight into why some students may respond to everyday classroom situations with heightened emotional reactions. The second half of the session will shift focus to practical, trauma-informed classroom strategies and structures that can help create safe, supportive learning environments for all students, especially those who have experienced or are currently experiencing trauma. Additionally, attendees will receive a brief introduction to secondary traumatic stress and vicarious trauma, including how these can affect educators. The session will conclude with practical self-care strategies to help professionals maintain their own well-being while supporting students impacted by trauma. This session is ideal for educators, school staff, and anyone working directly with students.
