Dyslexia Legal Update




As schools have managed the §504-to-IDEA transition in Texas dyslexia programs we can 
begin to assess the current status and implications of the shift in child-find, evaluations, and provision of dyslexia services as specially designed instruction. This session will review 
where schools stand with respect to making timely referral determinations based on relevant 
data points, conducting sound SLD/Dyslexia evaluations in light of state guidance and the 
revised SLD model, and the compliance pressures of providing dyslexia services as a 
component of special education services in IEPs as opposed to 504 plans. Review of recent caselaw will serve to illustrate how these emerging issues play out in real-life situations.
