TELPAS-ELPS Connection

This interactive training is designed to help educators deepen their understanding of the connection between the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Participants will explore how the ELPS guide daily instruction for English learners and how TELPAS evaluates the effectiveness of that instruction in developing English language proficiency.

Important Session Information:

Participants will learn how to align classroom instruction with the ELPS to meet the linguistic needs of emergent bilingual students. They will use TELPAS proficiency level descriptors (PLDs) as tools for ongoing formative assessment, integrate language development into content instruction across subject areas, and prepare students effectively for TELPAS without "teaching to the test." This session offers a deep dive into the TELPAS assessment through the lens of the student experience, providing practical insights to support meaningful language growth. Please bring a device to fully participate in the interactive activities and access session materials.
