TELPAS-ELPS Connection
Beyond the Test: Instructional Strategies to Grow English Proficiency

This interactive training is designed to help educators deepen their understanding of the connection between the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Participants will explore how the ELPS guide daily instruction for English learners and how TELPAS evaluates the effectiveness of that instruction in developing English language proficiency.

Important Session Information:

This session is designed for all educators working with Emergent Bilingual (EB) students across grade levels and content areas. It focuses on moving beyond TELPAS understanding toward practical, classroom-ready instruction that builds language-rich classrooms to support EB students daily. Participants will explore effective strategies aligned to each language domain—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—designed to guide instruction and promote consistent language growth. Educators will leave with tools and planning ideas they can implement immediately, including sentence stems, structured speaking routines, listening tasks, reading scaffolds, and writing supports that help EB students thrive in every learning environment.
