Coaching 101: Tools, Moves, and Mindsets for Novice Instructional Coaches

Stepping into the role of an instructional coach can feel both exciting and overwhelming. This session offers a clear, supportive entry point into the work for new and novice coaches. Together, we’ll unpack the essential tools and routines that help coaches stay organized, explore foundational coaching moves that build trust and spark teacher growth, and examine the mindsets that anchor effective practice. Participants will explore what effective coaching looks and sounds like, practice core strategies for supporting teachers, and learn how to navigate common challenges with clarity and purpose. This session offers new and novice coaches a grounded, actionable roadmap for becoming a thoughtful, trusted partner in teacher growth. Participants will leave with practical tools, a clearer sense of their role, and strategies they can use immediately.
