Join nationally recognized author and educator Gretchen Bernabei for a full day, engaging professional learning experience grounded in the principles of Grammar Keepers. This session reimagines grammar instruction as a meaningful and integrated part of the writing process, moving beyond isolated rules to help students use grammar as a tool for clear and purposeful communication.
Designed specifically for secondary literacy teachers, this training focuses on practical, classroom ready strategies that show how to teach grammar in context through reading, writing, and authentic student work. Participants will explore how to help students internalize grammatical concepts, strengthen sentence construction, and revise their writing with intention and clarity.
Through modeling, examples, and hands on application, teachers will learn how to
- teach grammar through real reading and writing experiences
- support students in crafting clear, varied, and effective sentences
- move students from editing for correctness to revising for meaning
- build student ownership and confidence in writing
Each participant will receive a copy of Grammar Keepers to support continued implementation beyond the session.
This session is offered at no cost through a TEA funded literacy grant dedicated to supporting high quality professional learning for Region 6 educators.
