Supporting Emergent Bilinguals Through the New ELPS Framework

This session is designed to support educators in understanding and implementing the updated English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) effective in Fall 2026. Participants will explore how the new standards impact instruction, assessment, and language development for emergent bilingual (EB) students across content areas. Through collaborative discussions, practical strategies, and classroom applications, educators will build capacity to intentionally integrate language supports that promote academic achievement and language proficiency.

Important Session Information:

This training introduces the updated English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) set to take effect Fall 2026. Participants will explore key updates and shifts within the new standards and gain a deeper understanding of how the changes impact instruction for emergent bilingual (EB) students. Through engaging discussions, practical applications, and classroom connections, educators will learn strategies to intentionally integrate language development into content-area instruction while supporting students’ academic language growth.
