Looking at Behavior Through a Communication Lens

Children—particularly those with communication disorders—may use challenging behaviors as a way to influence others and get their needs met. This session will focus on using functional communication training and other practical strategies to address problem behaviors. Participants will learn how to implement prevention strategies (such as graduated guidance and visual schedules), teach replacement skills (such as photo or icon exchange), and apply consequential strategies (such as pivoting and redirecting) to support positive behavior and communication.
