America at 250: Teaching the American Revolution for the Next Generation

Step back in time and experience the tumultuous era that forged America with Region 16, Panhandle PBS, and the Texas Panhandle War Memorial and Education Center.  In this immersive workshop, we will celebrate the semiquincentennial anniversary of America by re-examining the American Revolution using the new documentary "The American Revolution" from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt and the accompanying lesson plans and resources from PBS. To begin the session, we will delve into the deep-seated causes that drove the colonies to independence. Next, we will trace the pivotal events of the Revolution, while analyzing national heroes such as George Washington, alongside lesser-known figures like Nathaniel Greene. Finally, we will explore the enduring, history-changing legacy of the Revolution and how its principles still impact our lives today.  The workshop will be hosted at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, and lunch and refreshments will be provided by Panhandle PBS. The schedule will include time for you to explore the Panhandle War Memorial. All teachers are welcome to attend. Register today!
