Addressing Disabilities During Behavioral Threat Assessments




The Texas Education Agency’s Office of School Safety and Security and Office of Special Populations and Student Supports are pleased to announce a new statewide training opportunity for school districts and open-enrollment charter schools: Addressing Disabilities During the Behavioral Threat Assessment Process
This training is designed to support campus and district staff in understanding how disabilities, particularly those served through special education, intersect with behavioral threat assessment (BTA) practices. 
 
Training topics include:
- Overview of special education services and processes
- Key factors to consider when conducting threat assessments involving students with disabilities
- Applicable legal requirements
- Scenario-based tabletop exercises to apply concepts in real-world situations
 
Participants Can Expect:
- No-cost training for district and charter school attendees
- Interactive learning environment with practical, scenario-based activities
- Guidance from TEA specialists representing both special populations and school safety divisions
- Resources and materials to support local implementation of legally compliant, effective threat assessment practices.
