Land and Legacy: An introduction to the primary source documents and maps of the Texas General Land Office.
Share
Looking for unique, TEKS-related primary sources for the Social Studies classroom? The Texas General Land Office/Archives is the place. As the repository of the original land grants of Texas, the Archives collection contains many interesting, one-of-a-kind documents and maps that tell the story of Texas through its land history. Participants will be introduced to personal letters, testimonies, and other documents written by early Texas settlers, soldiers of the Texas Revolution, and notables such as Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, and many more. The workshop also provides useful, time-saving strategies for teachers and activities for students designed to enrich the learning experience. A CD of resources will be provided that includes copies of original documents and accompanying easy-to-read transcripts, lesson plans, maps and other useful information.
