2016 Write for Texas Institute for all Secondary Teachers
Share
Writing with a BANG: Building a New Generation of Learners Day 1: Featuring Ruth Culham, author of "6+1 Traits" and "The Writing Thief." Ruth's session will feature Writing is the New Black: Change Ahead in Writing Instruction Teaching kids to write well is one of the hardest jobs in education. And to make it even harder, many teachers feel unprepared. They face unmotivated students, lack critical resources, and deal with schedules that may not provide enough time for writing. It’s time to quit offering excuses for why students don’t write better. It’s time to become the teachers they deserve. And that means examining identifiable, dynamic, best practices in teaching writing. In this session, we'll explore the 4Ws of writing instruction: Writing process, writing traits, writing modes, and writing workshop. We’ll discuss how to blend the strengths of each strategy for teaching writing into one, cohesive approach that really works for every teacher at every grade. We will also look at using mentor texts in the classroom. It's time to launch a writing revolution. Writing is hot; it IS the new black. This is Day 1 of a 2 day institute. Participants can participate in one or both days. The 2016 Write for Texas Summer Institute will feature project-participant led sessions that focus on improving writing instruction for all secondary students. CSF 1,2,4,7
