High Plains Drifter: Alibates National Monument

Teachers will explore a local resource, Alibates National Monument, through nature walks and featured activities. This state treasure offers a unique perspective into the ancient civilizations that inhabited the high plains. Participants will tour the quarry where flint is the main feature and explore historical weapons in a demonstration. Once atop the mesa, participants will experience a vista that showcases not only beauty but how ancient civilizations utilized their environment to support their livelihood. Alibates is where science and social studies collide. If you want to bring depth and complexity to your own personal understanding as well as to your students, this unique workshop experience is for you. This workshop is a part of the High Plains Drifter series. Participants will meet at the nature center’s entrance at 9 am to enter National Monument.
