Trainings: Session Detail

Problem Solving Toolbox (Math Grades 2-5)

As teachers, we are always looking for ways to help our students be better problem solvers. One way that we have found to help motivate students when solving problems is to present the problems in the context of real-life engaging experiences. This inquiry-based method gives the purpose for students when introducing a new concept. In this training, teachers will be given a toolbox of ideas to implement a systematic plan for solving problems by combining the UPS-Check strategy with media and technology to make the process fun for students. Participants will see the value of allowing students to do the thinking while the teacher just facilitates the experiences. High yield strategies to practice the strategies will also be shared. CSF: 1, 2 & 3
