Unlicensed Diabetic Care Assistant (UDCA): Basic Training




Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to serve as unlicensed diabetic care assistants (UDCAs) on their campus. Texas law requires each campus, with a diabetic student seeking care, to have three UDCAs if there is not an RN assigned to the campus 100% of the time, or one UDCA if there is a full-time RN assigned to that campus 100% of the time. Topics include: following individualized health plans, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, checking blood sugars and ketones, administering glucagon and insulin, food intake needs, and when to obtain emergency assistance.
