The Mighty Word: Vocabulary Development Grade 3-8 Component 1 & 2




“All words are pegs to hang ideas on.” Henry Beecher (Drysdale, 1887) This 3 part series of sessions will focus on the ELAR TEKS vocabulary strand. There are four components to an effective vocabulary program: (1) wide or extensive reading to expand word knowledge (2) specific word instruction (3) word-learning strategies instruction and (4) word consciousness and word-play activities to motivate and enhance learning. This series of sessions will tackle these parts in 3 chunks. This session will focus on components 1 & 2. Teachers will walk away with lesson ideas and digital tools to support these components in the classroom. This online PD session will begin with a 30 minute virtual google meet on July 13, 2020 at 2:00 pm. A short informational video about google meets and the meet link will be sent to your email on Friday the 10th.

If you have the IS contract, the fee will be removed at checkout. This session will be in Google Classroom and will launched with a 30 minute Google meet on Monday the 13th at 2:00 pm.
