Trainings: Session Detail

Growing Language and Literacy for Advanced English Learners Day 1

English learners at the advanced/advanced high level are in much fuller command of the English language. However, due to the complexities of academic language and the linguistic demands of academic tasks, their progress often becomes slower. What does the research say about how we need to shift the focus of our instruction to prevent students at this level from becoming “stuck?” This workshop will meet initially on June 15th from 9:00 - 4:00 to discuss the particular characteristics and linguistic needs of advanced ELs. Participants will be given a project to work on before the next session which will convene on June 17th from 9:00 - 12:00. Participants will present their findings and will discuss ways they might incorporate these findings into the classroom.
