Trainings: Session Detail

From Bored Students to Enlightened Minds in the Middle School Geometry Classroom

“Equations are just the boring part of mathematics. I attempt to see things in terms of Geometry.” Data shows that geometry and specifically area, surface area, and volume are consistently a struggle for students and these concepts are often viewed as boring. Students form misconceptions in the area of computation, formula manipulation, and application of abstract concepts. How do we as teachers anticipate these misconceptions before they occur? How can rigorous tasks aid in learner transfer of geometric concepts and create enlightened minds? Join us for a day of learning about the 6th-8th Grade geometry content and you will leave with activities and instructional strategies ready to be implemented within your classroom.
