Trainings: Session Detail

Growing Thinkers and STAAR Success using Writing as a Tool Across the Curriculum (Grades 3-5)

Writing across the curriculum is not limited to Reading Language Arts. Let’s discuss simple strategies and instructional routines to promote metacognition using writing as a thinking tool in all content. Students should write for different purposes across all subject areas: science, math, and social studies. Writing across different subject areas helps to develop a purpose in writing while reinforcing learning. Integrating writing into content instruction develops deeper comprehension and higher-order thinking processes. The STAAR assessments will assess evidence-based writing and text-based responses. The RLA STAAR will assess both reading and writing which includes open-ended question types, short constructed responses, and an extended constructed response, or essay, at every grade level. Writing is challenging but empowers students to succeed in their learning. Let’s grow and create a culture of thinkers!
