Decoding and the Struggling Reader (Grades 2-12)




This session is designed for classroom teachers and reading specialists in elementary grades and interventionists working middle school and high school.  This session will focus on helping educators teach the foundational skills that lead to strong decoding and fluent reading. Educators will leave this session with an understanding of why students struggle with decoding and the impact this has on comprehension, tools and background knowledge needed to effectively diagnose decoding issues in students of all ages, resources needed to group students for instruction in ways that will yield the greatest improvements in the shortest amount of time, and functional teaching strategies to provide effective, age-and grade-appropriate decoding instruction in Grades K-12.
