Physics, not just a good idea, it's the Law
Share
This workshop is a one-day review of a few of the major laws of physics. In the morning hours, we will focus on the primary laws governing mechanics – specifically Newton’s Laws of Forces and Motion (4BCD). We will review vectors and free body diagrams as well as the Law of Conservation of Energy (6ABD). After a brief presentation, we will explore these topics through problem solving and hands-on activities (2EFGHJ). In the afternoon, we will take a look at some laws from Electricity and Magnetism – specifically Coulomb’s Law, Ampere’s Law, and Faraday’s Law which unify the concepts of Electricity and Magnetism (5CD). Again, we will have a brief presentation followed by problem solving and exploration activities. Since Dr. Bixler writes the physics questions for the Science UIL contests, many of the problems that we solve will be from previous UIL physics exams. These presentations, problems, and activities are designed both for teachers just beginning to teach physics, and for experienced teachers wanting a physics refresher. This workshop is made possible through the generous support of the Halliburton Foundation.
