Building Emergent Literacy Skills
Early Childhood (PK, K)
Share
In this session, participants will explore essential elements for targeting emergent reading skills in the early childhood setting, including phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, read-alouds, and concepts of print. Specific skills associated with phonological awareness and their importance will be discussed, as well as the importance of understanding how letter knowledge and listening to read-alouds contribute to literacy development. Participants will also be provided with a deeper understanding of scaffolding by exploring ways to teach foundational skills in an effort to reach children at all ability levels. Participants will leave with activities and materials to immediately use in their classroom.
