Diabetes Management of Children in Schools
This workshop provides training to school personnel who will be responsible for the care and assistance of children with diabetes in the school setting. Completion of training meets guidelines set forth in HB 984 for Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistants (UCDAs). Training will include Coastal Bend Health Education Center.
- Legal considerations
- Diabetes basics
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Insulin administration: syringe, pump, pen
- Hyperglycemia
- Hypoglycemia
- Ketone testing
- Glucagon administration
- Nutrition and exercise
- Skills stations - practice and check-offs
All participants must complete the entire class and pass all of the mandatory competencies in order to receive acknowledgement for House Bill Training.
PLEASE NOTE: Effective September 2016, nurses attending the House Bill Training will not receive nursing contact hours.
