The Pursuit of Oracy in the Elementary Classroom
Pre-K to 5th grade ESL and Bilingual

Vocabulary can, at times, be overlooked or pushed aside in our classrooms. One of the key indicators of student success is the development of vocabulary. The knowledge one has about a topic is based on the vocabulary of that information (Marzano and Pickering, 2005). It is time to put vocabulary front and center in our classrooms, by teaching vocabulary in a fun, interactive and meaningful way.

The focus of this workshop is building vocabulary fluency with an emphasis on ELs, and teaching how to incorporate academic vocabulary words into daily use. By increasing vocabulary knowledge, we build confidence in our English Learners (and all students), to increase academic achievement.
