Making Deep Connections for Students
Student achievement doesn't happen from simply listening, it happens by doing, and the one who struggles and does the work is the one that learns the most. Get the math manipulatives out of the closet, knock the dust off, and put them into your students' hands. Effective use of math manipulatives during instruction deepens connections to math concepts. Working from concrete models through representations and eventually into abstract thinking is a multi-step process that leads to fluency with operations. Give all your students hands-on opportunities to hear it...see it...and then DO IT!
