A trauma assessment is critical any time an individual evaluation is conducted, but is especially important in light of the world-wide trauma we are experiencing. An evaluation would not be complete without a determination of how a student’s trauma or reaction to stress might be impacting that student’s functioning in all areas – emotional, cognitive/thinking, behavioral, physical, relational and spiritual/meaning making. In addition, part of a trauma assessment should always include a determination of strengths or resilience. This session will explore trauma assessment and will look at instruments, techniques and measures that can be used when conducting an individualized student evaluation (such as for IDEA or 504).
