Share
Workshop specifically for Math Professionals.
Important Session Information:
The Mathematics Achievement Academy Blended Follow-Up is a continuation of the original grade K-1, 2 and 3 three-day math academies that were presented in the summer of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. (please bold)
In order to participate in this follow-up, participants must have attended an original grade K-1, 2, or 3 three-day math academy in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2021.
This training will be conducted over a multi-week period of time, beginning and ending with a half-day meeting. Participants will complete independent work in between the meetings. All independent work must be completed prior to the second meeting. Eligible participants will receive a stipend for their participation in this training once they satisfy all requirements.
In this session of the Mathematics Achievement Academy, Problem Solving and Discourse, the learning intentions include:
- making connections between problem solving in everyday life and problem solving in mathematics,
- identifying the actions of a proficient mathematics problem solver in order to support problem-solving development,
- defining and understanding the use of a problem-solving heuristic,
- understanding appropriate applications of a problem-solving model heuristic in grade 3 mathematics, and
- understanding the difference between justifying and explaining mathematical thinking as part of a problem-solving model heuristic.
