Session
Information:
Join our presenters in a series of courses designed to help you and your students better understand argumentation and competitive high school debate. The courses are designed to focus on cross-examination/policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Congressional debate. Particular emphasis will be given to argumentation, case construction, topic analysis, and specific debate strategies. The activity of debate will be viewed through a lens of the coach as a teacher and facilitator building a foundation for classroom instruction and extracurricular debate. The courses will allow for extensive, in-depth discussion around the events as well as help you create activities to use in your own classroom. While all circuits available for competition will be addressed, the focus will be on the rules of the University Interscholastic League. Course one will cover the basics of argumentation and specific types of policy debate arguments, such as topicality and counterplans. Course two will cover analysis of the 2022-23 national debate policy topic. Course three will cover Lincoln-Douglas debate and Congressional debate.
