In this foundational course by Starr Commonwealth, participants will be led, step-by-step, through the 10 steps to create a trauma-informed, resilience-focused classroom and school. The course focuses on resilience and an emphasis on understanding how trauma impacts children and their school experience. It provides proactive strategies such as fostering connections, prioritizing social and emotional skills, establishing safety, and promoting play. Detailed information and concrete actions are also covered, not only about the why but also the how to create classroom and school supports for traumatized students. The private logic of students and their universal needs are addressed, as well as how to understand students and create plans to support behavior. Other topics include collaborating with families, supporting staff and utilizing outcome data.
After completion of the course, participants will earn the Certified Trauma and Resilience Specialist in Education (CTRS-E) Certification from Starr Commonwealth.
