Session
Information:
This workshop is designed for special education evaluation personnel and school psychologists conducting evaluations for students suspected of Autism in the educational setting. Participants will explore how autism may present differently in girls, including differences in social communication, restricted interests, masking/camouflaging, and internalizing concerns. The session will address characteristics that may be overlooked when traditional or male-centered presentations of autism guide the evaluation process.
Participants will examine strategies for conducting comprehensive, culturally responsive, and educationally relevant evaluations within the Texas special education framework. Emphasis will be placed on integrating developmental history, interviews, observations, standardized measures, and school-based data to develop a comprehensive understanding of the student and inform eligibility and educational recommendations.
