Critical Literacy: From Heads to Hearts to Action with ELAR and Social Studies (Grades K-12)(T.A.I.R.)
Share
In collaboration with the West College of Education at Midwestern State University and T.A.I.R. (Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading), Region 9 Education Service Center will host this one-day event.
Important Session Information:
This one-day conference will feature speakers, Loki Mulholland and Kim Mogilevsky. Loki Mulholland is an award-winning filmmaker and author. He will provide information about how we move history from students' heads and to their hearts when the history we teach might not be as accurate as we think. He will explore this subject through a riveting exploration of the history of racism in America and the challenges he has faced. Also, he will move beyond the dates and names and to the heart of the Civil Rights Movements through the showing of the award-winning documentary, "An Ordinary Hero". Kim Mogilevsky is a veteran teacher and the Chief Product Officer for Studies Weekly. She will walk you through how to take what you learned with Loki and supercharge your classroom with powerful ELAR techniques that will move your students from not just knowing and feeling the history but making it applicable and relevant in their lives. ***Please register by May 1, 2018 to receive a book written by Loki Mulholland.
