Important
Session
Information:
The educational and home environments play a vital role in the development of behavior/learning for students, especially those with ASD. This session will discuss how to analyze various components in the educational and home environments from school-wide to individual classrooms, from adult interaction to student interaction, overall school climate, to parent involvement, and the home environment. Some of the major factors discussed include: communication (all levels and across multiple areas), structure and routines, social-emotional health, the input and output of instruction, basic behavior analysis for teachers and parents, overview of a functional behavior assessment, and how to create behavior plans that teach and are therapy based. These factors, as well as several others, have a direct effect on students’ behavior/learning. Being able to recognize issues in the environmental factors and how to adjust, revise, or differentiate will be of great benefit for all students with ASD…and all students.
