FIE Workshop Series: Dyslexia for Diags




These sessions are designed to meet the professional needs of special education evaluation personnel. 

Important Session Information:


As a result of the TEA Special Education Strategic Plan, Dyslexia is currently a "hot topic" in the state of Texas. This session is intended for diagnosticians and other SPED personnel who may potentially be more involved in the dyslexia evaluation process this year. Course objectives include: an understanding of the timeline of events and documents that led us here; the basics of dyslexia and dyslexia evaluations; how to look at the types of scores and data typically collected for a SPED SLD evaluation through the lens of dyslexia consideration; and what, if any, additional tests would need to be administered to include a consideration of dyslexia as part of an evaluation for SLD in the area of reading. This session will be a collaborative presentation by Amy Blackwell, Region 9 SPED Evaluation Specialist, and Paula Tilker, Region 9 Dyslexia Specialist.
