Webinar - The Link Between Listening and Literacy: How Collaboration Maximizes Reading Success for Children with Hearing Loss

What do we know about the potential in children with hearing loss to achieve reading & writing skills similar to that of their typical-hearing peers? Research from 2000 (Traxler) indicated that 50% of students with hearing loss in the United States had reading capability similar to that of a fourth grader or less. Research from 2002 (Marschark, Lang & Albertini) indicated that 30% of students with hearing loss in the United States graduated as functionally illiterate. With the technologies and interventions available in 2018, are children with hearing loss capable of more? What are the correlations between listening and literacy? Join us for this one-day workshop highlighting current research, early literacy milestones and the importance of auditory access to all sounds of speech early in life. Participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge, collaborate in conversations and engage in video examples.
