Important
Session
Information:
The educational, home, and community environments play a vital role in the development of behavior and learning for students, especially those with ASD. This session will discuss how to analyze various components in the educational and home environments from school-wide to individual classrooms, from adult interaction to student interaction, overall school climate, to parent involvement, and the home environment. Some of the major factors discussed include: communication (all levels and across multiple areas), structure and routines, social-emotional health, the input and output of instruction, basic behavior analysis for teachers and parents, overview of a functional behavior assessment, and how to create behavior plans that teach and are therapy based. These factors, as well as several others, have a direct effect on students’ behavior and learning. Being able to recognize any issues in the environmental factors and how to adjust, revise, or differentiate will be of great benefit for all students with ASD.
