CANCEL: Art Education (P.M.)




This workshop is for fine arts teachers.

Important Session Information:


When it comes to satisfying art curriculum requirements, the first thing most of us probably think about is making art projects. But if we only focus on art making processes, then we are only focusing on craft and making for the sake of making without really getting to the root of what art is. In this workshop we will have discussions on topics related to art and how it can easily be integrated into other subjects. We will discuss what art is and what our motivations for making it are, and we will practice learning exercises such as Visual Thinking Strategies that have the potential to make an impact on a student’s visual literacy, communication, cultural awareness and critical thinking skills. These exercises can be implemented to help build confidence in our students so that they might be better equipped to fully engage in studying, making, and talking about art. This, in turn, will help support learning in other subjects as skills are developed and connections are drawn.
