Mathematics Achievement Academy: Problem Solving and Discourse, Grades K and 1 (3 days)

Eligible Grade Kindergarten and First Grade teachers will examine learning progressions and critical checkpoints for students within the TEKS and experience classroom activities, including formative assessment and follow-up activities that support diverse learners. Teachers will build a toolkit of strategies and questions for students with disabilities, English language learners, struggling learners, and gifted learners. Structures providing meaningful practice and feedback will be explored. Through hands-on activities with whole number operations and fraction concepts, this academy will strengthen teachers' knowledge of mathematics concepts and processes, improve mathematics instruction, and support student success. Upon completion, eligible teachers will receive a $350 stipend.

Important Session Information:

This K-1 achievement academy will enhance teachers' knowledge and skills so they can effectively teach students to achieve mathematical proficiency. The academy will deepen teachers understanding of research-based effective instructional practices in mathematics. Teachers must attend all 3 days in order to receive the 18 hours of credit and a $350 stipend.

There will be a $250 per day fee for out-of-region or non Region 9 District participants. If coop membership is required, there will be a $125 per day fee for non-coop participants.
