Language Acquisition Theory, Stages of Language Development and Cultural Factors (Canvas) September 1-30, 2020




This session is a component of the previous ESL Academy or a good refresher for current ESL certified teachers. The ESL Academy is a training for individuals that are interested in becoming ESL certified.

Important Session Information:


We will address the theories of language development and stages of second language acquisition. We will also learn about the partnership of BICS and CALP and how educators can move English learners (ELs) through the quadrants of language development. Cultural factors impacting language learning will also be addressed. In order to be fully knowledgeable for the ESL Supplemental 154 Exam, it is recommended to participate in the following sessions: *Language Acquisition Theory, Stages of Language Development & Cultural Factors. *Best Practices for ELL instruction. *Bilingual & ESL Law
