During this session we will review a free version of an approved reading instrument districts can use to fulfill the state requirement for those students who did not demonstrate reading proficiency on the 6th grade reading STAAR assessment. Although assessment is required in grade 7, the Texas Middle School Fluency Assessment (TMSFA) is available for grades 6-8, and it allows campuses to assess their students in passage reading fluency as well as word reading fluency.  The data will help teachers to plan appropriate interventions to bring students up to the grade level standard. Teachers will have the opportunity to practice with the diagnostic tool and will leave prepared to administer it on their home campuses.
