A Systematic and Explicit Approach to Phonics Instruction (K-2)




This session will explore a score and sequence of phonics and word reading skills.

Important Session Information:


Did you know there is a research-based systematic approach to the teaching of phonics skills? Throughout this session, we will explore the scope and sequence of the phonics continuum along with components of explicit instruction including the Gradual Release of Responsibiity model. We will work through the importance of incorporating decodable readers and implementing a sound wall as well as other components of literacy into daily phonics instruction. For a more comprehensive literacy experience, we will learn how to administer and interpret the results of a phonics screener for targeted data driven skills grouping. Some of the information throughout the day will be a repeat from Summer 2021.
