Becoming an Active Reader (K-5)

Reading comprehension happens when an active reader utilizes a whole range of knowledge and skills (about language, literacy, and the world) to generate meaning from text.

Important Session Information:

Responding as we read and after we read are crucial comprehension processes. Proficient readers respond to messages in all kinds of texts. Let's explore what this means to our young learners as we focus on strategies that promote comprehension in an assortment of children's literature. We will identify a variety of ways to respond with and to text through multiple genres including an introduction to text sets. Motivation and buiding background knowledge are both key components to investigate on this journey of becoming an active reader!
