Unlocking Core Vocabulary for Early Learners (AM)




All sessions will be geared toward educators and administrators of early learners.  A wide variety of topics will be covered.

Important Session Information:


One of the major developmental tasks in early childhood is learning to communicate. For students with significant disabilities, it's oftentimes difficult to individualize access to build communicative skills. But not to worry! Core Vocabulary is an approach designed for students with significant disabilities who do not yet use speech, signs or symbols to communicate in flexible ways. This includes students who rely on early forms of communication such as facial expressions, vocalizations and body movements, as well as students who are just beginning to use symbols, signs, or words but cannot yet put them together. Adults use a limited set of highly useful words that apply across settings to model and encourage student communication using no/low to high tech augmentative and alternative devices.
