Homeless Youth Simulation: July 24, 2023 9:00 - 12:00




The McKinney-Vento Quarterly Sessions will offer general and specific McKinney-Vento information to assist liaisons and other district employees with providing necessary support and opportunities for students experiencing homelessness.  

Important Session Information:


The purpose of this simulation is to get educators to think about the issues youth experiencing homelessness deal with each day. The educators learn by doing, playing the roles of those experiencing homelessness. As with all role-playing exercises, it is important that participants stick to the rules of the simulation and remember that they are getting a very small picture of an experience. One cannot accurately simulate homelessness in an hour. Each participant in the simulation plays a different person experiencing homelessness. Each has a different economic situation. Some are recently homeless, some have been homeless for years, some have family responsibilities, and some have drug or alcohol problems. Each participant's goal is to find housing and interact with other participants. Participants seek housing from various simulation administrators who represent different agencies, from rescue missions to expensive real estate agencies.   • There will be a $250 per day fee for out-of-region or non Region 9 District participants. If coop membership is required, there will be a $125 per day fee for non-coop participants.
