Building Foundations for Supporting Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (2 DAYS)

TX CAN has created learning materials to support effective and rigorous instruction for students with complex access needs. These courses will be presented in a variety of different formats to support professional development needs.

Important Session Information:

The purpose of this TX CAN-produced training is to create a standard of high-quality instruction for students with significant cognitive disabilities across the state. The needs of students with a significant cognitive disability require specialized adaptations and modifications to traditional educational strategies. This training covers the five Quality Indicators of Effective Practices for working with students with significant cognitive disabilities and aligns with the Rubric of Effective Practices. Through the course, you will participate in a number of self-assessment activities to connect with and internalize the content. Doing so will help you to develop the necessary foundational skills for supporting students with significant cognitive disabilities. This 12-hour course is specifically designed for: Special education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech language pathologists, and related service providers.

There will be a $250 per day fee for out-of-region or non Region 9 District participants. If coop membership is required, there will be a $125 per day fee for non-coop participants.
